My earliest memory was a visual...I don't agree. My earliest memory was a visual and sensory memory of an event that occurred when I was 18 months old. I remember an image of being in a rowboat, sitting between my mom and dad, wearing a bulky lifejacket, and looking at the sparkling water and I remember feeling very safe and secure. I also remember, from the same time, an unfamiliar house that was noisy because the floors and stairs were all wooden. When I was a few years older, I described these images to my mom and she confirmed that this happened during a vacation to a lake house when I was 18 months old.

You can say that the memory had no meaning because I was unable to put it into words at the time it happened but you're wrong. It clearly DID have meaning - the feeling of being snug and secure between my parents while in an unfamiliar situation is what made it stick with me. I couldn't describe it until I had the words, but when I did, it was accurate according to my mom - it was a true memory.MKBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11437925465262016305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004592252895499792.post-78110519204232019872016-05-18T20:32:06.619-07:002016-05-18T20:32:06.619-07:00I can vividly remember being fed in my highchair b...I can vividly remember being fed in my highchair being in the playpen and holding my self up in the crib biting on the rail I was maybe 18 -20 months I'm now 76 my memory amazes me Beanstalkehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16350793700440980630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004592252895499792.post-77415814518337334562015-08-27T09:45:30.487-07:002015-08-27T09:45:30.487-07:00Probably you remember an altered version, as resea...Probably you remember an altered version, as research has shown that memories are altered with each recall:

www.abajournal.com/news/article/study_finds_memories_can_change_with_each_recallRuthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07487353994277648802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004592252895499792.post-37306006909308510852015-08-22T13:09:12.656-07:002015-08-22T13:09:12.656-07:00I remember my father hamfistedly changing my cloth...I remember my father hamfistedly changing my cloth nappy pushing a huge safety pin through the cloth, i was scared he would stab me accidentally with it wich had happened before. If you don't have context or language, you can't form a memory that you are able to recall later. While it's possible to remember an event, without context or language to describe and associate the details, the memory has no meaning, which makes it nearly impossible to recall. By recall, I mean, re-access and associate with the details that make up the memory. So if children younger than two go to a zoo but they don't understand what it is or have words to describe it, they may still have a visual memories of the zoo years later but those memories are meaningless since they were formed without context or language so they may never be associated with a zoo and therefore, they won't be able to recall it.imaNYgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16887970086042087312noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4004592252895499792.post-3397245516364231942014-01-25T07:30:34.663-08:002014-01-25T07:30:34.663-08:00What's my earliest memory? 1 Year and 364 days...What's my earliest memory? 1 Year and 364 days old, getting a present from my grandpa.Eirheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06469918415625319001noreply@blogger.com
